Is organized religion the cause of most, if not all of the chaos in the world today?
Filed under: Organized Chaos;18 CommentsMy theory: Most organized religions try to force their beliefs on others. If we as a people let everyone believe what they wanted to believe as long as it wasn’t bringing harm to others, (like sacrifices and stuff like that) the world would be such a more peaceful place. What do you think?
I think there is an element of truth in what you say. But I think what is at the heart of what you are saying is tolerance. If people could have a little more tolerance for people that were different than themselves then maybe there wouldn’t be so much war/chaos.

I think that if people would just listen to God….the one and only God there is….we would all live in a peaceful world.

Even though I am a Christian, I actually agree with you. I think a perosn’s religion ought to bring them inner peace rather than heaps of guilt and duties.
I still buy into the Judeo christian God however. I need structure.
But after I wnet into recovery, we are told to live and let live. so, that’s my philosophy now.

I think you are forcing your beliefs down my throat. The chaos in the world is cause by satanic cults led by Lucifer himself.

God is not about religion…He is all about relationship with Him….so yeah mans attempt to organize a religion and control the means a person can relate to God…thats a goos reason the world is in the state it is….if people gave their lives to Jesus and allowed the renewal to occur…peace would be abundant….again it is not religion its relationship…†

Wars are fought in the name of religion and I find that ridiculous. If everyone that claimed to be religious practiced what their religion teaches…yes, it would be a more peaceful place.

I’d say no. Yeah, it’s true there were many "Holy Wars" but they weren’t really the church’s fault. I’m not big on org. religion but I can say that it helped form America and many of the morals that we stand by. Humans are the cause of most Chaos in the world…plain and simple.

No, it’s not, but you have a very good point. And your idea for a more peaceful co-existence is good if it could happen, but as long as there are those who consider it their "duty" to kill infidels it’s not going to happen. The United States got started by people wanting freedom of religion, not freedom from religion as the liberals and atheists claim.

No.
Hitler was not religious. He was the greatest mass murderer in history.
Stalin was not religious.
Mao was not religious.
Pol Pot was not religious.
People who want to dominate and kill do so because that is their personal motivation. Some like Zarqawi use religion as a cover, but that is all that it is. Zarqawi claimed his Sunni faith was his motivation. Then he killed Sunni’s. The terrorists who were a part of 9/11 claimed to be religious then got drunk the night before the day of terror. No true Moslem would do that. It is all a cover.

No, states are the direct cause of almost all chaos on earth. Religion is just a co-conspirator.

yup but theoritically not possible. Beliefs can’t be rationalized and what do u consider harm because it is relative.. i would say that if u r not believing what I am believing( or I am not believing) its harming me.

No. I strongly disagree with you.
Only human stupidity causes all the horrible things that happen around the world, including some of the human-invented religion that teach war and oppression.
But even in those religions, it is up to the people to interpret what they want to interpret. People hate America and jealous of Americans – so they start the war with America. People hate Jews, so they preach to destroy them in the name of God.
If people themselves would be more tolerant and peaceful, they would try to teach and promote their religious views, instead of imposing them on others with terror acts and oppression.

I don’t think it’s the fault of religion, per se. I think it’s the fault of the people who have the "perfect world syndrome". Where they’re way is the only way, and if everyone did it their way everything would be just fine. But unfortunately, thats not how the world works. Nor will it ever work that way.
I understand this and I’m part of an organized religion.

Religion is just the excuse. People’s more base emotions show in all kinds of events. Look at soccer/football for example. A goalie misses an important goal and is killed soon as he gets home. Riots in the bleachers between rival fans. You see the same kind of fanaticism in sports all the time. People have even gone so far as to injure or attempt to kill rivals of the team/individual. The stabbing of a tennis star for example or the attempted breaking of a skater’s leg is another example.
To see fanaticism at work you can look everywhere. Even tightly knit groups with strong commonalities like the technical fields illustrate it quite well. Back in the early 90s if you wanted to see grown men turn into raving lunitics all you had to do was insult their favorite programming language. You see almost as intense tension between microserfs and OSI fans.
Then you can look at groups like the Black Panters, KKK, etc. Religion is an element but in reality it is only a facade. The real element is ethnic rivalries. Even in the same religion you see wars like the wars between the Catholics and Protestents, and today Sunni and Shite Muslim. Before Protestentism Catholic nations happily warred with each other over many reasons.
Whoever wins the current US election, if polorization that is present continues at it’s current pace there will likely be violence resulting from the next election. Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush could easily incite opposite party fanaticism.
Then you get animal rights activists who kill other people in the name of saving animals/trees. The lumberjack for example who cuts into a spiked tree and eats parts of his chain saw.
Fanaticism is part of humanity. It can lead us to do great things sometimes, evil things sometimes. Many contributions to art, science and lititure were the end result of expressions of fanaticism of some sort. It is when a feeling of injustice is mixed with fanaticism then you have volitile and deadly conditions. The other problem mix is fanatics of opposite extremes being put in compitition of some sort. Though compitition itself often breeds fanaticism. Without it though nothing could get done, so it’s a necessary evil.

The picture of God picking out one people special, and throwing everybody else down the crapper, is much too attractive to the average person. Let’s face it, most folks are all about ego and recognition.
The real kick in the head is that they think they have real courage just because they get people at church to pat them on the back. It doesn’t occur that millions have died for a point of view that has nothing to do with anything.
